JPMorgan Chase employee fired after viral trash can incident during Knicks Championship parade

A woman who was caught emptying a trash can and stealing it during New York City’s Knicks Championship parade was fired Tuesday from her position at JPMorgan Chase as a result of the incident.

Angie Báez, 40, served as executive director of community and industry engagement for card and connected commerce at JPMorgan Chase, according to the New York Post.

Trending clips show Báez dressed in Knicks gear dumping trash from a limited-edition trash can onto a Manhattan sidewalk before walking away with the can and getting on the subway with it.

Báez previously worked as executive director of diversity, equity and inclusion at Infatuation, a New York-based review website that JPMorgan Chase acquired.

A spokesperson for JPMorgan Chase told TMZ News that she was fired from the company due to her actions at Thursday's parade.

Under New York City law, theft of property valued under $1,000 is usually charged as petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor. Consequences often include a fine, summons, or community service for first-time offenders. The littering that accompanied the theft could bring additional penalties, according to the New York Post.

“Dumping trash onto the street and stealing public property for your own personal use are both illegal, antisocial behaviors, and not what New Yorkers do. On top of all that, doing both on camera is incredibly stupid,” the New York City Department of Sanitation told The Post.

The NYPD said Saturday that Baez had not been charged with a crime. The Department of Sanitation confirmed that the trash can was returned the next morning.
