Dollar General told investors in an earnings call Thursday that it plans to open approximately 450 new stores nationwide next year, as it expands its reach into rural communities amid concern over the United States' economy.

The discount retailer said it also expects to open 10 stores in Mexico, relocate approximately 20 stores, and to oversee approximately 4,250 store remodels, according to Fox Business.

"Our first priority is investing in the business, including our existing store base, as well as other high-return growth opportunities such as new store expansion, remodels, and other strategic initiatives," Dollar General Chief Financial Officer Donny Lau told investors.

The move comes as Dollar General raised its annual profit forecast after beating third-quarter earnings estimates on Thursday. Its chief rival Dollar Tree also increased its annual profit forecast on Wednesday.

The new projected openings also come after Dollar General opened 575 stores in the United States in 2025. The company currently operates nearly 21,000 stores nationwide.
