The DOW Jones Industrial Average on Thursday closed above 39,000 for the first time.

The key stock index surged 1.18% while the Nasdaq posted a 2.96% gain to close at 16,041.62, according to Yahoo. The S&P surged 2.11%.

Partially driving the stock surge was a boost in Nvidia shares, which rose 16.4%, per CNBC.

The software and chip manufacturer is particularly popular among gamers for its GPUs. Its Thursday gains saw the firm rise in value by a record $250 billion, Reuters reported.

Nvidia's surge followed the firm posting a strong quarterly report, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Other tech firms, including Microsoft and Meta saw significant gains on Thursday as well.
