Free anarchist Portland summer camp teaches 'youth activism'
Spots are still available for the free camp, which is open to children entering 4th-8th grade
The Black Rose Anarchist Federation, which encourages ending capitalism and overthrowing the state, is offering a free two-week "social justice" camp in Portland, Oregon, this summer for children to learn "youth activism."
The Budding Roses camp posted its 2020 curriculum online, where campers were given COVID-friendly activities to "do remotely while still facilitating learning and conversations about race, gender, the environment, disability justice, youth activism, and more."
Activities included instructions on "ways to keep yourself safe if you get tear gassed," a "Black Lives Matter" coloring book, prison pen pals, a "White Supremacy Reflection" activity, an "indigenous land map" coloring activity, a "police abolition" exercise and a children's book titled, "The Prison Industrial Complex And The Fight to Abolish It."
Budding Roses also posted a "Protest and Chant Book" online with profane chants such as "The whole damn system is guilty as hell! Indict! Convict! Put those killer cops in jail."
The camp will run July 25 to August 5 and is open to students entering 4th through 8th grade. As of last week, Budding Roses stated on Facebook that spots were still available.
