Ford says F-150 Lightning production to be suspended for another week as battery problems persist
Battery supplier is changing production process.
Ford Motor Corp. on Friday said it would continue for another week its production suspension of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks, citing its battery supplier's intent to revamp its production processes to work out technical issues with the car's power supply.
The company issued a halt on the Lightning line last week amid reports of "a potential problem" with the truck's battery. The trucks are manufactured at the company's Ford River Rouge complex in Dearborn.
Ford said in a statement this week that production teams "worked quickly to identify the root cause of the issue," and that battery supplier SK was moving to revamp its production process in order to address the issue.
“We agree with SK’s recommended changes in their equipment and processes for SK’s cell production lines," Ford said in the statement.
The F150 constitutes the first mainstream all-electric pickup truck on the U.S. market, one that analysts are expecting to herald a potential new era zero-emissions work vehicles.
