Meal kit service Daily Harvest says it still doesn't know what sickened nearly 100 customers
Reports blamed lentil-leek snack; company says more testing is needed.
Daily Harvest, the meal kit delivery service that has been embroiled in major controversy over indications that one of its meals sickened dozens of consumers, said this week that it still has not isolated the source of the apparent outbreak.
The company has been hit with broad claims that one of its snack items — a lentil-leek combination "crumble" — sickened many of those who ate it, resulting even in reports of gallbladders having to be removed due to organ damage.
In an update on its website this week, Daily Harvest said it has "ruled out several potential root causes" of the outbreak, including Hepatitis A, Listeria, Salmonella and numerous other common ailments.
"We're not done testing yet," the company said. "Thorough scientific processes require extensive laboratory analysis and we're committed to finding answers."
The company said it believes the issue is confined solely to the lentil snack.
In the last few weeks, Daily Harvest has been hit with legal action over the outbreak, with lawsuits in several states demanding restitution for illnesses, hospital stays and/or gallbladder removals.
