Naomi Judd, matriarch of award-winning Judd family, dead at 76
Judd was mother to singer Wynonna and actress Ashley.
Naomi Judd, the matriarch of the successful Judd family and one-half of the legendary mother-daughter country duo the Judds, died on Saturday at 76, her family confirmed.
Judd, who won multiple Grammys alongside her daughter Wynonna, was scheduled to be inducted with the latter into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday.
A statement released by daughters Wynonna and Ashley did not specify the cause of her death.
"Today we sisters experienced a tragedy," the statement said. "We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory."
Judd was born in Kentucky and resided just outside of Nashville in her later years.
