Arkansas GOP Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday that she was asked to leave a restaurant in Little Rock last week because her presence made employees and customers feel "threatened."

Sanders previously served as White House press secretary during President Donald Trump's first term and has since been a supporter of the president's immigration policies.

The governor said she was dining with two other moms at the restaurant, which has been identified as The Croissanterie, when the owner allegedly told members of her security detail that Sanders must leave because her "presence made their employees feel threatened."

"Arkansans are known for their warm hospitality, and while that restaurant didn’t meet that standard, my administration will continue to focus on lifting Arkansans up, not tearing others down," she said on X.

The Croissanterie told a local outlet Wednesday that it stands by its decision to ask the governor to leave and that it stood with its employees and members of the local community.

“Allowing her to stay risked being perceived as a lack of support for the community that makes up the majority of our team, as well as their families and friends,” the restaurant said. “Conversely, asking her to leave could be viewed as denying service based on differing beliefs.

"Ultimately, we made the decision to support our employees and guests who expressed they were uncomfortable," it continued. “We regret being placed in this position and having to make a difficult decision. However, we stand by our choice to support our employees and guests.”

The incident comes after Sanders was asked to leave the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia in 2019 while serving as White House press secretary.
