California officials on Thursday refuted President Donald Trump's claim the U.S. military entered the state and turned on a water supply, amid concerns about firefighters having not had enough water to extinguish the devastating wildfires this month in Los Angeles County. 

Trump said Monday night on TRUTH Social the military had entered California under "emergency powers" to turn on the water.

"The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond," Trump posted on the social media site.

The state's Department of Water Resources responded on the social media platform X by posting: "The military did not enter California" and said that what happened was the federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were offline for maintenance for three days.

Trump's statement follows his signing of an order directed federal agencies to “maximize” deliveries of water to California, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Also under scrutiny regarding the wildfires, in which at least 29 people have died, is Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom's policy regarding water.

Trump in his social media post also wrote: "The days of putting a Fake Environmental argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER. Enjoy the water, California!!!"

The state agency also wrote: "The State water supplies in Southern California remain plentiful."

California Democratic state Sen. Mike McGuire called out Trump for his post.

"First off, shocker, water from the Pacific Northwest doesn’t flow to the Central Valley," he wrote on X. " Second, federal water pumps were down for repair and are now back on. Third, rest assured, the military has not invaded the delta. Facts are hard."
