LA County under first blizzard warning since 1989, 8-plus feet of snow forecast for east mountains
Residents of the areas under a blizzard warning have been advised not to leave their homes
The fierce winter storm rambling down the Pacific Coast is forecast Friday to bring blizzard conditions and as much as 7 feet of snow to the Los Angeles County mountains, east of the downtown.
The National Weather Service in advance issued its first blizzard warning for the county since 1989. And forecasters say the snow accumulation for the mountains could by Saturday reach 8 feet.
Residents of the areas under the blizzard warning have been advised not to leave their homes.
The storm on Wednesday created big problems in Portland, Oregon, which was hit with 10.8 inches of snow, the most in a single day for the city in about 80 years.
Snow earlier this week also blanketed the beaches of California's Central Coast city of Santa Cruz.
Winds has high as 75 mph are expected to sweep through the Los Angeles mountains.
As of Friday morning, it was raining in the city of Los Angeles.
Over 200 flights out of California had been cancelled as of 6:45 a.m. local time Friday as a result of the storm.
