New York firefighters combat blaze in Brooklyn's Prospect Park
The New York Fire Department (FDNY) on Friday said the fire was first reported at 7 p.m. Eastern. Approximately 60 fire and emergency medical services employees have responded to the blaze so far.
Firefighters in New York City on Friday night responded to a brush fire in Brooklyn's Prospect Park, which had grown to a two-alarm fire within one hour.
The fire comes as the five-buroughed city is under a drought watch, because of a lack of rain in the region over the past several weeks, according to CBS News. Less than two inches of rain has fallen in Central Park since September.
A red flag warning has also been issued for New York City because of a mix of the drought and high winds.
The New York Fire Department (FDNY) on Friday said the fire was first reported at 7 p.m. Eastern. Approximately 120 fire and emergency medical services employees have responded to the blaze so far. The FDNY said it is using drone technology to identify hot spots, and specialized units. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
