California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom is scheduled to kick off his national summer tour on Thursday with the first stop in the swing-state of Nevada, where he is expected to speak about voting rights.

The governor is expected to appear at a state party canvassing kickoff event in Las Vegas and raise money for Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, who is running for governor. He will remain in the state through Saturday.

“Following the success of Prop 50, which gave Democrats a path to retake the House through California, Governor Newsom will campaign across California and the country to protect democracy and voting rights, elect Democrats, flip seats, and end Donald Trump’s unchecked power,” Newsom spokesperson Izzy Gardon told Politico.

Newsom, considered a top Democrat presidential candidate in 2028 should he run, is also expected to make stops in the Deep South later this summer in congressional districts in which black voter representation has reportedly been reduced after the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the Voting Rights Act, according to Politico.

He is also slated to appear at events in California in the near future, where he is expected to help fundraise for Democratic candidates in five House races that became more favorable to the party after Prop 50 passed last year.

The tour is expected to help boost his potential presidential campaign by getting him on the campaign trail and introducing him to leaders who could be beneficial later, while also enhancing his reputation as a team player for the Democratic Party.

He has been the governor of California, the most populous state in the country, for eight years.
