Prince William County Public Schools in Virginia said Thursday that 303 students have been suspended for leaving school grounds last week during a staged walkout in protest of federal immigration enforcement operations.

The event took place last Friday morning but required the Prince William County Police Department to supervise the protest and manage traffic in the area. Another anti-ICE walkout at Woodbridge High School is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20.

Woodbridge principal Heather Abney told parents that students are allowed to do walkouts as a form of protest, but the students left campus which resulted in their suspension, according to Fox News. It was not clear how long the suspension will last.

"Because students left school grounds during the instructional day, the situation will be reviewed and addressed in alignment with the Code of Behavior," Abney wrote. "We appreciate your partnership as we continue to prioritize student safety while maintaining clear expectations for appropriate conduct during the school day."

Organizers for the next "ICE OUT" protest said all Prince William County Public Schools officials have been notified of the protest and students will not be in trouble for walking out of class, but urged students to stay safe as the event is county wide.

"Welcome to Prince William County Schools ICE OUT," the organizers wrote on Instagram. "It’s time to take a stand and we are grateful to have the opportunity to exercise our constitutional rights."

The group urged students to remain civil and not throw items at people during the protests.

"Peaceful protests are much more powerful as they show that your voice matters, that you stand together, and that the message is about the issue, not conflict," the organizers wrote. "Staying calm and focused allows everyone to be heard safely and makes a bigger impact in the long run."
