At least six people, including a child, are dead and nearly two dozen more are injured after severe storms and an apparent tornado tore through central Tennessee.

"At this time we can confirm that three people are deceased, two adults and one child as a result of the tornado that touched down this afternoon. Additionally, 23 people have been treated at the hospital," officials from Montgomery County, north of Nashville near the Kentucky state line, said Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Clarksville Fire Department posted pictures on Facebook showing extensive damage and said first responders are working to get people trapped underneath collapsed homes.

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department identified the three deceased in Montgmery County as Joseph Dalton, 37; Floridema Gabriel Perez, 31, and her son, Anthony Elmer Mendez, 2, according to The Associated Press. Dalton was inside of his mobile home when it was thrown on top of Perez's home. Two other children, one in each home, were treated at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, per police.

More information about the other three deaths was not immediately available.
