Thousands without power after 6.4 magnitude earthquake rocks Northern California

More than a dozen smaller quakes hit the area shortly after the 6.4 magnitude one, including one as powerful as 4.6 magnitude.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook Northern California early Tuesday morning, leaving more than 71,000 people without power in Humboldt County.

California has been hit with 43 earthquakes in the past 24 hours, with the most powerful one striking shortly after 2:30 a.m. PT, according to Earthquake Track

Nearly two-thirds of Humboldt County is without power as of Tuesday morning, data from PowerOutage.us shows.

More than a dozen smaller quakes hit the area shortly after the 6.4 magnitude one, including one as powerful as 4.6 magnitude.

The U.S. Geological Survey predicted that a limited number of landslides may result from the earthquake.
