Tropical Storm Alberto puts Texas, Mexico under threat of major flooding
The National Weather Service office in Houston said that there have already been reports of coastal flooding in the area.
Texas and Mexico could potentially be hit by upcoming Tropical Storm Alberto this week, resulting in severe flooding and high winds.
The storm has formed near the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to hit northeast Mexico on Thursday, according to NBC News.
The National Weather Service office in Houston said that there have already been reports of coastal flooding in the area.
"The disturbance is very large, with rainfall, coastal flooding and wind impacts likely to occur far from the center along the coasts of Texas and northeastern Mexico," the National Hurricane Center said.
Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott said the state is preparing resources for upcoming weather.
"Directed @TDEM to increase the readiness level of the State Emergency Operations Center ahead of incoming severe tropical weather," Abbott wrote on the social media platform, X. "Texas is activating all necessary resources to support Texans and communities potentially impacted by excessive rain and flooding."
