A hurricane watch has been issued for parts of the Louisiana and Texas Gulf Coast as Tropical Storm Edouard approaches the shore. 

The National Hurricane Center warned Tuesday that Edouard is "significantly strengthening" and could develop into a strong tropical storm or minimal hurricane. 

As of Tuesday morning, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, Scripps News reported. 

The storm is moving through an area with extensive development, but because it's 40 miles offshore, it will have limited time to strengthen before making landfall. It's expected to weaken quickly once it's over land.
