U.S. Space Force helps Hawaii fight wildfire

The U.S. Space Force Indo-Pacific Headquarters is helping Hawaii fight wildfires in Maui with satellite data. The announcement Wednesday says Space Force "provided valuable and timely commercial analytics to local government officials and first responders."

"Within hours of receiving requests for assistance from Maui County Fire and Emergency Management Agency officials on July 18, the Space Force initiated a process to acquire and analyze satellite data of the wildfire along the Crater Road," according to Space Force.

The imagery reportedly "helped local agencies better understand the fire's progression and further inform their response efforts."

Space Force reports the "data aided firefighters in their efforts to contain and extinguish the blaze."
