Celebrities pledge to leave Twitter after Elon Musk purchase

Some celebrities are leaving Twitter while others are returning after Elon Musk reached a deal Monday to purchase the social media platform.

"The Good Place" actress Jameela Jamil wrote what she called her "last tweet" on Monday. "I fear this free speech bid is going to help this hell platform reach its final form of totally lawless hate, bigotry, and misogyny," she said.

New York Times columnist Charles Blow tweeted after the purchase: "Well, I’m out. I will now use Twitter like I use Facebook: only for promo purposes, to post my columns, tv and speech appearances, and book info. No 'content' specifically for it, or created on it."

"The Amazing Spiderman" comic book author Erik Larsen followed through on his promise to delete his Twitter account, The New York Post reported.

Musk, for his part, welcomed opposing views on his platform.

"I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means," he posted.

Conservative celebrities are returning to the social media outlet after Musk's purchase, including Fox News' Tucker Carlson and radio host Mark Levin.
