Musk indicates he will release internal Twitter docs on censorship of Hunter Biden laptop story
Measure is “necessary,” owner says.
Twitter owner Elon Musk this week indicated that he will soon release internal documents showing why Twitter moderators elected to censor a bombshell story about the Biden family just weeks before the 2020 elections.
Twitter was among the social media companies that quickly moved to censor distribution of reports on Hunter Biden’s laptop in the last weeks of the 2020 campaign. The company claimed the story, broken first by the New York Post, violated their “hacked material” policy, though it was not evident that the materials themselves were actually “hacked.”
Commentators sharply criticized Twitter for the decision, which many said unfairly influenced the 2020 election. This week, meanwhile, Musk indicated that he would move to reveal internal documents regarding the social media company’s decision.
The Twitter CEO was responding to a tweet from user Alex Lorusso, who wrote that Musk “should make public all internal discussions about the decision to censor the [Post’s] story on Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 Election.”
In a reply, Musk wrote: “This is necessary to restore public trust.”
In the years since the 2020 election, multiple media outlets have acknowledged that the material on the laptop is indeed authentic.
