Zuckerberg says Meta has no plans to go through with a kids' version of Instagram

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told Congress on Wednesday said the tech firm has "no plans" to make a kids version of its Instagram platform. 

He acknowledge “discussions internally” on the idea but also said Meta has not “actually moved forward with that, and we currently have no plans to do so.”

The idea of a kids version of Instagram was brought up in 2021 and was criticized by lawmakers, according to NBC News.

Zuckerberg spoke before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is holding a hearing on Big Tech preventing online child sexual exploitation.

Other CEO's testifying include Jason Citron of Discord and Linda Yaccarino of X.

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, questioned Zuckerberg and asked him about the amount of sexually explicit content on Meta.

"My understanding is that we don’t allow sexually explicit content,” he answered. 

"How is that going?" Lee shot back, resulting in clapping from the audience. 

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reports that Meta has high rates of child sexual abuse material on its platform, according to NBC News.
