Texas shooter who killed 2 people, injured 3 cops was in Army, National Guard

The Texas shooter who on Saturday killed two people and injured four others, including three police officers, reportedly served in both the Army and the National Guard and was known for good conduct, officials said this week. 

Edward Christian Freyman, the 28-year-old who killed two of his neighbors, injured one more and shot three responding police officers on Saturday before killing himself, "was enlisted as an infantryman in the U.S. Army from October 2014 to October 2019 and attained the noncommissioned rank of sergeant," the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Freyman subsequently joined the Texas Army National Guard and served there as a sergeant infantryman, military officials told the paper. 

The shooter during his time in the army "was awarded medals and commendations including for good conduct, Army achievement and professional development as a noncommissioned officer," the paper reported. 

It was unclear as of Tuesday afternoon why Freyman had shot and killed the two victims, though the three reportedly knew each other to some extent.
