United threatens to cease flights at JFK unless Biden admin gives them more flight slots
Airline reportedly only getting two cross-country flights daily from New York's busiest airport.
United Airlines is threatening to cease all flights to New York's busiest airport if the Biden administration does not give them more flights out of it, according to a leaked letter from the airline.
Company CEO Scott Kirby "wrote to Acting [Federal Aviation Administration] Administrator Billy Nolen last week to urge him to increase capacity" at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Reuters reported late on Tuesday, citing " an email Tuesday by the airline to employees."
"If we are not able to get additional allocations for multiple seasons, we will need to suspend service at JFK, effective at the end of October," the email reportedly stated.
The airline allegedly only has two flights daily going from JFK to the busy hubs of San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The FAA, meanwhile, said in a statement following the email that it "must consider airspace capacity and runway capacity to assess how changes would affect flights at nearby airports."
"Any additional slots at JFK would follow the FAA's well-established process of awarding them fairly and to increase competition," the agency said.
