Trump seeks colossal $1.5T defense budget amid Iran war
The request to dramatically expand the military budget comes as the U.S. struggles to force Iran to the negotiating table as the conflict nears the five-week mark.
President Donald Trump on Friday called for Congress to pass a $1.5 trillion military budget to fund a major buildup amid the Iran war.
The request to dramatically expand the military budget comes as the U.S. struggles to force Iran to the negotiating table as the conflict nears the five-week mark.
"The Budget request for the Department of War (DOW) advances President Trump’s delivery of peace through strength by reinvesting in the foundations of American military power [...]and ensuring the United States maintains the world’s most powerful and capable military by continuing to invest in innovative programs such as the Golden Dome for America," read a White House fact sheet.
Trump further requested $40.8 billion for the Department of Justice to continue a crackdown on violent crime and bolster national security efforts.
The budget request also asked for additional funding for veterans, the beautification of Washington, D.C., nationwide anti-fraud initiatives, upgrading the air traffic control system, and other programs.
