Welcome bags for South African refugees contain materials to help them assimilate into American life
The bags will contain an Android tablet, an American flag and copies of the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. The bags will also contain histories of the U.S. and South Africa that include perspectives on discrimination against White people.
The Trump administration is reportedly putting together welcome bags that refugees from South Africa will receive in the coming weeks.
The bags will contain an Android tablet, an American flag and copies of the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. The bags will also contain histories of the U.S. and South Africa that include perspectives on discrimination against White people, the New York Times reported.
This includes a report that President Donald Trump commissioned during his first term that doesn't focus on slavery in the story of America's founding, and a children's book that highlights claims of discrimination against Whites by South Africa's government.
The bag will also contain products from conservative education institution PragerU, such as a story about a Black South African who protects a White rugby teammate from a mob of Black South Africans.
The bags will also include a welcome letter from Alex Adams, assistant secretary for children and families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The letter explains that the bag contains resources to help the arrivals assimilate into American culture and support their education in American history and values.
“The Trump administration understands America’s immigration system must put the U.S. citizen first, and only welcome in those who will assimilate into the American way of life and preserve our borders, language, culture, traditions and ideals,” Adams wrote in the letter.
