Presumed next DC mayor Janeese George responds to Trump statement calling her 'communist adherent'
Janeese Lewis George, who won the D.C. Democratic primary for mayor and is expected to win the general election, said she is "willing to work with anyone," including the Trump administration, to improve the lives of D.C. residents.
The winner of the Democratic primary race for mayor of Washington D.C., Janeese Lewis George, said in a response to criticisms from President Donald Trump that the claims he made about her are incorrect. George is expected to win in the general election.
“It is a great honor to be the Democratic nominee for mayor of my hometown. While most of these claims are incorrect, the fact is that the mayor of our nation’s capital and the [Trump] administration are going to be meeting with each other. I’m willing to work with anyone, including the administration, to improve the lives of DC residents," George said in a statement, WUSA9 reported.
In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump called George a "communist" and said she wants to empty prisons, defund the police and expand cashless bail. He said that his policies have made the city safe and the "envy of the world."
"We will not let it be destroyed by a Communist adherent who has no intention to MAKE WASHINGTON GREAT AGAIN!" Trump said.
