A clear majority of Americans want a quick end to the Iran war, even if winding down the conflict means the U.S. does not achieve its objectives, a recent survey has revealed.

In the latest Reuters/Ipsos survey, 66% of respondents said that they wanted a quick end to the war, even at the cost of operational success. Twenty-seven percent said that the U.S. should continue fighting to achieve its war aims. 

The conflict itself earned similarly poor marks, with 60% disapproving of the U.S. strikes on Iran and 35% approving. 

Support was highest among Republicans, though 40% favored a quick end the conflict and 57% favored a protracted fight to accomplish U.S. goals.

Conducted March 27-29, the survey questioned 1,021 people.

The results are bad news for President Donald Trump, whose approval rating has taken a nosedive since the start of the conflict. He currently boasts a 41.1% approval rating in the RealClearPolitics polling average. A further 56.7% disapprove of him.
