8 Republicans make Florida primary ballot
Binkley's appearance on the ballot was the biggest surprise in the party's announcement.
Eight Republicans have qualified to appear on the GOP primary ballot in Florida, the state party announced on Wednesday, following the deadline's expiration.
Republican voters will have the options of choosing between former President Donald Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and Pastor Ryan Binkley, Politico reported.
The Sunshine State has a winner-take-all primary and is home to the two top contenders, Trump and DeSantis. Polling data has suggested that Trump enjoys a considerable lead in the Sunshine State over its governor and a loss there could deal a fatal blow to the DeSantis campaign, which is currently in danger of falling into third place behind Haley, according to some surveys.
Binkley's appearance on the ballot was the biggest surprise in the party's announcement. He has largely self-financed his campaign and did not qualify to participate in any of the Republican National Committee's primary debates.
Parties have until Nov. 30 to submit their final ballot rosters to the state, while candidates may withdraw up until Dec. 12.
