An 8-year-old boy in Alabama allegedly hijacked a car at gunpoint and proceeded to lead police on a protracted car chase on Tuesday.
The incident in Montgomery resulted in no injuries, the New York Post reported. During the chase, the boy refused to pull over at police direction and continued driving, crashing into another car.
He is in police custody and currently held at the Montgomery County Youth Detention Facility. He faces a litany of charges, including for first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and attempting to elude authorities.
The boy's identity has not been publicly released.
One eyewitness told WSFA that they followed the driver and, upon realizing it was a child, called the police. During the juvenile's apparent joyride, the witness said he stopped to pick up two adults, whose identities and relation to the boy remain unclear.
