The federal judge overseeing the case involving former President Donald Trump's alleged mishandling of sensitive government materials will not agree to postpone his trial until after the November 2024 presidential election, at least for now, CBS News reports.

The 9-page decision by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon keeps the May 2024 trial date that she set this summer, but Cannon said she would consider the matter again at a conference scheduled for March, after proceedings to determine how classified information will be used in the case.

If the trial date isn’t rescheduled, it would coincide with Trump’s GOP presidential nomination campaign. Trump’s lawyers, according to the outlet, asked Cannon to delay the trial until after next year’s presidential election.
