Maine Republican lawmaker seeks to impeach secretary of state who blocked Trump from ballot
Maine state Rep. John Andrews, a Republican, called Shenna Bellows decision to block Trump from the Republican Primary ballot "raw partisanship."
A Maine Republican state representative is moving to impeach Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, who disqualified former President Donald Trump from the 2024 Republican primary ballot.
Rep. John Andrews, according to Fox News, wants to impeach Bellows for barring a qualified U.S. citizen, who hasn’t been convicted of a crime, from being on the March 2024 Republican presidential primary ballot. He said Bellow’s actions were “raw partisanship.”
Andrews explained that the secretary of state position in Maine is not an elected office.
“They are chosen by elected Democrat Party insiders after deals are made in the back room of State House,” Andrews said.
Andrews also praised U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, a Maine Democrat, for criticizing Bellows’ actions, even though Golden isn’t supportive of Trump’s campaign.
