Nikki Haley says she would pardon Trump as president, it would be 'the best interest of the country'
“What’s in the best interest of the country is not to have an 80-year-old man sitting in jail, that continues to divide our country," Haley said.
Former United Nations Ambassador and 2024 GOP candidate Nikki Haley said if elected president she would pardon former President Donald Trump.
“I would pardon Trump,” Haley said during a campaign event, according to a video circulating social media.
She said that she would do it because it would be in the best interest of the country.
“What’s in the best interest of the country is not to have an 80-year-old man sitting in jail, that continues to divide our country," she said. “What’s in the best interest of the country would be to pardon him, so that we can move on as a country and no longer talk about him."
According to a recent poll in New Hampshire, Haley is within four percentage points of Trump, The New York Post reports.
However, Trump still leads in the majority of polls. A poll conducted by The Hill, Trump has 63.1% support.
The former president is currently in the middle of four criminal cases, with two of them being federal.
