A PAC supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has spent millions of dollars on ads supporting his possible 2024 presidential, despite him significantly trailing former President Donald Trump in hypothetical 2024 Republican primary polls.

The Never Back Down PAC, which is led by former Trump White House official Ken Cuccinelli, is not authorized by DeSantis, but the group told ABC News it spent millions of dollars since last month to buy ads supporting DeSantis both nationally and locally in early balloting states Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.

DeSantis has not announced whether he is entering the race, but that has not stopped Trump or his allies from targeting the governor.

Donald J Trump for President 2024 issued a memo on Thursday stating that pro-DeSantis PACs are spending money as "national polling gives President Trump his widest margin yet over Ron DeSantis."

On average, Trump comes in at 52% in the Republican primary, compared to DeSantis' 22.9%, according to analysis from FiveThirtyEight.

The Trump team states that Never Back Down spent more than $7.2 million in television ads over the past three weeks.

"So, stated directly, what you are witnessing is a fleecing on an epic scale. Tens of millions of donor dollars spent, while poll numbers… drop," they said.

Just the News could not independently verify the numbers in the Trump memo.
