Former President Donald Trump and his new running mate GOP Sen. JD Vance of Ohio will make their first public appearance together as a joint ticket at an indoor event on Saturday, marking the first rally for Trump since the assassination attempt.

The former president was wounded in his right ear during a shooting at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday afternoon, which resulted in the death of one attendee and the suspected shooter. Two other civilians in the audience were critically wounded.

The rally will take place at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Saturday, July 20, at 5 p.m. Eastern, according to Axios. The indoor venue is unusual for Trump, but Secret Service officials have reportedly warned the former president against holding outdoor rallies because they pose greater security risks.

Vance and Trump were confirmed as the Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees at the GOP convention on Monday, after Trump announced Vance as his running mate.

"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio," Trump posted on Truth Social. "J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association.

"J.D.’s book, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country. J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond…." he concluded.
