Trump blasts NY AG James, who's investigating his business, after she drops out of reelection debate
The debate was scheduled for Wednesday evening, but James pulled out earlier this week.
Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday criticized New York Attorney General Letitia James after she dropped out of a debate scheduled for tonight against Republican challenger Michael Henry.
James is also leading a civil lawsuit for alleged fraud by the Trump Organization.
"Letitia 'Peekaboo' James has the worst record on violent crime in the Country, people are fleeing New York in Record numbers, and she doesn’t have a clue how to stop it," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"That’s why she is avoiding a debate with her highly respected crime fighting opponent, Michael Henry, who is now leading in the polls. She couldn’t win a debate if Abraham Lincoln stood by her to help!"
A recent Siena College poll showed James 11 points ahead of Henry at 51% to 40%. However, a Trafalgar Group poll last month put Henry slightly ahead of James, at 45.4% to 44.4%, in the heavily Democrat state.
James earlier this week declined to participate in the TV debate hosted by NY1.
"We have a great deal of respect for NY1, but our concern is that this is an opportunity for our opponent to make totally factless, baseless statements," the James campaign said.
Henry responded: "The only threat to democracy is candidates like Letitia James who refuse to debate. ... Letitia James cannot run from her record even if she runs from a debate."
