President Donald Trump this week suggested that he would denaturalize foreign-born American citizens if it falls within his authority.

"If we have criminals that came into our country, and they were naturalized maybe through Biden or somebody that didn't know what they were doing, if I have the power to do it... I would denaturalize, absolutely!" he told reporters on Sunday.

The president has dramatically escalated his rhetoric on immigration in the wake of an Afghan national attacking two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., last month.

He has further promised to review asylum claims, temporary protected status (TPS) for various groups, and to escalate deportations. Trump has even embraced the term "remigration", reflecting a term associated with immigration hawks.
