Trump praises Paxton as 'one of the most loyal people' in Texas speech

President Donald Trump praised Texas Republican Senate nominee and Attorney General Ken Paxton in a speech Thursday, claiming that the Texan has been fiercely loyal to him but also at times a "pain in the a**," as voters prepare for the midterm elections next month.
The president spoke to voters at the Peterbilt Motors Company in Denton, Texas, where he warned attendees not to elect Paxton's rival James Talarico, joking that a "vegan" should not be the senator of the Lone Star state.
"It's such a big race," Trump said. "[Ken's] been a friend of mine for a long time. One of the most loyal people. When I was being hit by the radical left very hard...Ken Paxton was at my side more than anybody. And I have to always remember that, cause he can be a pain in the a** sometimes, I'll be honest. We need Ken so badly, that's why I am here."
Trump said it would be a "horror" if Talarico defeated Paxton in November, and promised he was devoted to electing Paxton, who was in attendance at the event.
"To put a guy, a freak like that in there would be such a horror to your state, and such a horror to the country," the president said of Talarico. "We need the votes, and I'm here for that, and I think we're going to win."
The speech comes during a busy day for the president, who is also scheduled to appear in Oklahoma on Thursday night. He will then return to the White House, before traveling to Mobile, Alabama, on Friday, according to the White House schedule.
The president is also expected to appear in Ohio and Nebraska in the coming days.
