Trump reacts to Durham report on FBI's Russia collusion probe: 'The American Public was scammed'
The Durham report declared the FBI had no verified intelligence or evidence when it opened up the Crossfire Hurricane investigation of Trump's campaign.
Former President Donald Trump reacted to the release of Special Counsel John Durham's report on Monday, saying, "the American Public was scammed."
On Monday, Durham released a final report after more than three years investigating the Trump-Russia collusion probe, declaring the FBI had no verified intelligence or evidence when it opened up the Crossfire Hurricane investigation of Trump's campaign in the summer of 2016. The prosecutor, however, recommended no new criminal charges.
"WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia Probe! In other words, the American Public was scammed, just as it is being scammed right now by those who don’t want to see GREATNESS for AMERICA!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
Durham started his probe about the FBI's investigation into Russia's 2016 presidential election interference in 2019, and he was appointed special counsel over the matter in 2020 by then-Attorney General William Barr. His investigation later resulted in the criminal trials of Sussmann and Steele dossier source Igor Danchenko, but neither was found guilty over their roles in the scandal.
In Durham's first case — the only other one besides the two above-mentioned trials — he obtained a guilty plea from an FBI lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, for changing an email regarding former Trump campaign aide Carter Page. The case ended with a sentence of probation.
