Trump berates McConnell, Pence in speech to Republican donors: Reports

Former President Donald Trump during closed-door remarks on Saturday night reportedly went off-script from his prepared remarks, referring to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell as a "stone-cold loser." 

Trump's address on Saturday was the last speech of the Republican National Committee's weekend donor summit held in Palm Beach, Florida.

"The key to this triumphant future will be to build on the gains our amazing movement has made over the past four years," Trump said in his prepared remarks, according to the Associated Press. "We transformed the Republican Party into a party that truly fights for all Americans."

But departing from the prepared remarks, Trump noted that he was "disappointed" with former Vice President Mike Pence, and used a profanity when assessing the senate minority leader, according to individuals who attended, the AP reported.

Trump "also said McConnell had not thanked him properly for putting Chao, who was labor secretary under President George W. Bush, in his cabinet," the outlet added.

McConnell's wife Elaine Chao served as transportation secretary under the Trump administration but resigned in the wake of the January Capitol breach. Pence presided over a congressional session during which Biden was certified the winner of the 2020 presidential election.
