President Donald Trump said Thursday that he was sending his "love" to Michigan's Jewish community and Detroit after a driver rammed his vehicle into a Jewish temple in West Bloomfield, and that he has been "fully briefed" on the situation.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the suspect was found dead in his vehicle but that no children or staff were injured in the incident at Temple Israel. However, one of the security guards was taken to the hospital after being hit by the vehicle.

“I want to send our love to the Michigan Jewish community and all of the people in the Detroit area following the attack on the Jewish synagogue early today,” Trump said in the opening of his remarks at a White House event. “I’ve been fully briefed, and it’s a terrible thing, but it goes on. We’re going to be right down to the bottom of it. It’s absolutely incredible that things like this happen.”

The incident comes after the FBI's Detroit field office trained the temple's staff on how to handle an active shooter situation in January.

Bouchard said security at the temple was able to quickly evaluate the situation and engage the attacker, but did not directly tie the efficiency back to the FBI training.
