Trump says he will vote no on Florida initiative allowing abortion through 9 months
Trump clarified Friday that he would not be supporting Florida Amendment 4.
GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump said on Friday that he would vote "no" on a Florida ballot initiative that would add constitutional protections for abortion up to nine months.
On Thursday, Trump had said that he disagreed with Florida's current six week abortion ban, saying it was too short.
“I’m going to be voting that we leave more than six weeks," Trump said, according to The Daily Wire.
That resulted in pro-life conservatives becoming concerned that he would vote for Florida Amendment 4 that would have constitutional protections for abortion up to nine months.
The actual language of the ballot initiative is, "No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient's health, as determined by the patient's healthcare provider."
Trump clarified Friday that he would not be supporting the amendment.
“I disagreed with [the six-week limitation] right from the early primaries when I heard about it. I disagreed with it,” Trump said Friday while in Pennsylvania. “At the same time, the Democrats are radical because the nine months is just a ridiculous situation, where you can do an abortion in the ninth month.”
“You know, some of the states, like Minnesota and other states, have it where you can actually execute the baby after birth, and all of that stuff is unacceptable,” the former president continued. “So, I’ll be voting ‘no’ for that reason.”
