Former President Donald Trump said Monday that he wouldn't be as combative if it weren't for the news media.

“I would like to be less controversial,” Trump told Fox News anchor Bret Baier during a wide-ranging interview. “I find the press is extremely dishonest, and if I’m not combative, I don’t get my word across. I don’t think you could win.”

The 45th president became well known during his presidency for calling out the mainstream media, referring to them as "fake news."

Trump took a shot at Fox News during the interview and said that “a lot” less people watch Fox than “used to.”

During the interview, Baier pushed Trump on how he was going to get independent voters to vote for him in 2024.

The second part of Baier's interview with Trump is set to air Tuesday night, according to The Hill.
