President Trump said that the U.S. trade deficit has decreased by 78% due to tariffs.

"THE UNITED STATES TRADE DEFICIT HAS BEEN REDUCED BY 78% BECAUSE OF THE TARIFFS BEING CHARGED TO OTHER COMPANIES AND COUNTRIES. IT WILL GO INTO POSITIVE TERRITORY DURING THIS YEAR, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MANY DECADES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!" Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday.

Trump's statement comes as he has used various tariffs to make trade deals with other countries during his second term in office.

Six House Republicans joined Democrats last week to pass a resolution to roll back Trump’s tariffs on Canada, The Hill news outlet reported. The 219-211 vote followed a House GOP revolt against leadership due to the Trump administration’s handling of trade policy.
