President Donald Trump scolded Democratic lawmakers during his State of the Union address Tuesday night, saying they should be "ashamed" of themselves for not standing up, prompting Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar to yell back.

Trump called for lawmakers to stand up if they believe "the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not Illegal aliens," which prompted many on the Democratic side to remain seated.

"You should be ashamed of yourself, not standing up" Trump said while Omar heckled. "You should be ashamed of yourself."

The comment prompted Omar and Michigan Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib to shout back that Trump is the one who should be ashamed.

“You have killed Americans! You should be ashamed," Omar yelled.

"I'm also asking you to end deadly sanctuary cities that protect criminals and enact serious penalties for public officials who block the removal of criminal aliens, in many cases, drug lords, murderers all over our country," Trump continued amid interjections from the lawmakers. "They're blocking the removal of these people out of our country, and you should be ashamed of yourself."

The comments marked a particularly heated moment in the address. Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green was also booted from the chamber after holding up a sign in the center aisle reading “BLACK PEOPLE AREN’T APES!" ahead of the speech.
