President Donald Trump warned Iran on Wednesday night against conducting more attacks in the Persian Gulf, stating the United States' retribution would be "much worse" if the country, with which the U.S. is at war, continues attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump's warning came in a Truth Social post that included a screenshot of an image of the aftermath of American strikes in the Middle East, which comes after Iran reportedly struck three commercial vessels on Tuesday that were transiting the international waterway.

"This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran," Trump wrote. "If it happens again, it will get much worse!"

The president earlier in the day said he believes the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran is "over," following air attacks Tuesday by both sides.

The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway," the United States Central Command said on X.
