Americans doubtful of quick end to Iran war: Poll
An overwhelming 74% of respondents opposed boots on the ground, compared to just 20% who supported it.
A clear majority of Americans expect the war in Iran to go on for at least "months," despite President Donald Trump declaring the conflict "very complete" and reports indicating he was seeking an off ramp.
Following the joint Israeli-American strikes on Iran that kicked off the current round of hostilities, Iranian forces have targeted positions in nearly every neighboring state, including American bases and oil production facilities.
In the latest Quinnipiac Poll, Americans were skeptical of a quick end to the conflict, however. When asked as to their estimated timeframe for its resolution, a mere 3% said it would end in "days," 18% said "weeks," 32% said "months," 13% said "a year," and 26% said it would last longer.
Notably, the conflict has thus far seen the U.S. largely limit itself to airstrikes. Discussion of a Kurdish incursion from Iraq into Iran, moreover, appears to have fizzled out. Americans were overwhelmingly opposed to sending U.S. troops into Iranian territory, however.
An overwhelming 74% of respondents opposed boots on the ground, compared to just 20% who supported it.
Conducted March 6-8, the survey questioned 1,002 registered voters and has a margin of error of +/- 3.8%.
