Americans sour on Biden economy as reelection bid heats up: poll
Democrats rated his handling of the economy worse than his overall job performance.
President Joe Biden scored low marks on his handling of the economy in a recent survey that comes in the wake of his official reelection campaign announcement.
Biden declared in late April that he would seek a second term in 2024, saying he was fighting a "battle for the soul of America."
But Americans appear unimpressed by the job he has done thus far, with a mere 33% of U.S. adults supporting his handling of the economy in a recent Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll. Just 24% rated economic conditions as good.
Democrats rated his handling of the economy worse than his overall job performance, with 61% backing him on the issue compared to 75% who approved of him more broadly. Overall, his approval stood at 40%.
He further scored low on guns and immigration, with 31% of respondents supporting his handling of those matters.
Conducted between May 11-15, the survey questioned 1,680 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of +/- 3.4%.
