Andy Beshear, Daniel Cameron tied in Kentucky governor's race: poll
Though the state has traditionally been a Republican stronghold, Beshear won an upset victory against incumbent GOP Gov. Matt Bevin in 2019.
Kentucky Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear and state Attorney General Daniel Cameron are locked in a dead heat in the race for the governor's mansion, a recent poll has shown.
The pair each earned 47% support in the latest Emerson College survey. Four percent were undecided while 2% opted for another candidate. When forced to choose, however, undecided voters narrowly backed Cameron over Beshear, 49% to 48%.
Though the state has traditionally been a Republican stronghold, Beshear won an upset victory against incumbent GOP Gov. Matt Bevin in 2019. Cameron had been trailing for much of the campaign and latest survey shows a marked increase in support for him.
"Cameron appears to have gained ground by consolidating Republican voters who supported former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election," said Emerson College Polling Director Spencer Kimball. "In October, 54% of Trump supporters supported Cameron; now, as election day approaches, that number has jumped to 79% – a 25-point increase."
Kentucky's gubernatorial election is slated for Nov. 7. The Bluegrass State is one of several that hold their major elections in the off-years, rather than in alignment with presidential elections.
Conducted Oct. 30-Nov. 2, the survey question 1,000 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 3%.
