Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Thursday called for Democrats to approve a "Medicare for all" plan after the party won a clear majority in the upper chamber of Congress in the Tuesday evening midterms.

"Medicare for all" is a signature policy item for Sanders, who has long been one of the most left-leaning lawmakers in the country. But such a plan is unlikely to clear a 60-vote Senate filibuster, nor is it likely that President Donald Trump would sign such legislation.

"The American people spoke loudly and clearly on Tuesday," he said. "The new Democratic majority cannot continue the same old, same old establishment policies.

Working families want change, REAL change, and that’s what Democrats must deliver."

"Health care must be considered as a human right, not a privilege. That means passing Medicare for all," he insisted.

Healthcare reform remains a hot button issue in both parties, but affordability and the Iran war appeared to be the highest priorities for American voters, accoridng to polling.
