President Joe Biden acknowledged his seventh grandchild for the first time on Friday, issuing a statement to People asserting that his son Hunter was working to build a relationship with 4-year-old Navy Joan Roberts.
"Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, are working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter, preserving her privacy as much as possible going forward," Biden told the outlet. "This is not a political issue, it’s a family matter... Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy."
The president has previously not acknowledged Navy as his granddaughter.
Navy is the child of Hunter Biden and Lunden Alexis Roberts, a former stripper. DNA evidence has established that Hunter is in fact the girl's father. The first son and Roberts reached a settlement in which Hunter will reimburse Roberts for the cost of health insurance and hand over some of his artwork, which will be sold.
The proceeds will then go to an account designated by Roberts. Some of the first son's art work has featured in the Georges Bergès Gallery, which has listed his works for as much as $85,000.
